Behind every company that gets built from nothing, there’s usually someone who made it possible. For Thomason Construction, that person is Shaleen Thomason.
Shaleen and Kenny’s story starts long before there was a company. The two met as teenagers working together at Star Nursery in Las Vegas — Kenny was 17, Shaleen was 16 — and what started as a friendship became a partnership that has lasted a lifetime. While Kenny was learning the trades and dreaming of something bigger, Shaleen was building something of her own.
A former ballet dancer with a natural elegance and discipline that would follow her into everything she did, Shaleen worked her way up through the ranks at Star Nursery, eventually reaching a management role through sheer work ethic and an exceptional ability to stay organized in the middle of chaos. She wasn’t waiting around — she was kicking and taking names in her own right.
Then came the decision that defines the kind of person Shaleen is. When Kenny set out to build Thomason Construction from a truck and a trailer, the early years were lean. Shaleen didn’t hesitate. She kept the family stable, brought in income, and gave Kenny the space and security he needed to chase a dream that hadn’t proven itself yet. She bet on him before there was anything to bet on.
When their second son arrived, Shaleen and Kenny made the decision together — it was time for her to come home. For several years she poured that same discipline, organization, and dedication into raising their two boys, now 14 and 11. Anyone who knows Shaleen knows she didn’t do that halfway either.
When both boys were in school and Shaleen began thinking about stepping back into the workforce, Kenny asked her to take a look at the company’s finances. What she found was a growing business that needed exactly what she had always been good at — structure, precision, and someone who genuinely cared about every dollar. She never left.
Today, Shaleen serves as Vice President of Thomason Construction, anchoring the company’s financial operations with a level of care and attention to detail that keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Every Thursday she ensures the team gets paid accurately and on time. Every Friday she reconciles accounts and makes sure every vendor relationship is honored. In a business where cash flow and trust are everything, Shaleen is the person making sure neither one ever slips.
She may not be on the job site every day — but make no mistake, without Shaleen, none of it works.
Thomason Construction is a family business in every sense of the word. And Shaleen Thomason is proof of that.
